This is the 100-year story of Angel Wagenstein. A direct witness to at least three historical revolutions, a participant in the underground resistance during the Second World War, a prisoner in a concentration camp, a fighter against fascism, a man sentenced to death, the creator of fifty-two screenplays, a film and theater director, the author of four novels and countless pages of non-fiction, and the recipient of hundreds of awards from all corners of the globe. A Bulgarian citizen and a German pensioner—a rebel with a sparkling sense of humor and an independent spirit—who managed to remain true to himself throughout every era he lived through.
